And a fire sure would be delightful. Except there is no warm, cozy fire in my Washington Heights apartment, nor is there central heat and air, an essential (now luxury for me) necessity amongst Floridans.
So let me get this straight, (it took me a while to fathom as well) during the summer I have to hang some gaudy, temporary air-conditioner outside my window so that I don't melt to death, and in the winter, my warmth is monitored solely by my building? So help me god. Just to clarify, the temperature within my room is extremely inconsistent. For example, on a frigid day when the high is 30 degrees, the radiator is nonexistent, and on a day when its 50 degrees, heat radiates on full blast. Frustrating, indeed. This is just one of the many things that make living in The Big Apple so very… unique; unique New York.
I've spent my entire life living in Florida, therefore I've never really experienced a seasonal change, until now. In Florida, every day is like a vacation with sunny blue skies paired with an ideal 70 degrees, and when one envisions snow, it's of a beautiful "winter wonderland." Except not. Perhaps the first snow of the year illustrates a "winter wonderland," yet snow is anything but a "wonderland," unless of course you're sipping tea at a chic lodge in Aspen draped in fur by a fire.
I've had many friends venture off to the northeast and midwest for undergrad, often venting about the gloomy winters and how they were affected both physically and emotionally. Emotionally? Well, now I can relate. This weather has turned me bipolar. It's sucking the life out of me, leaving me restless, emotionless and unmotivated to do anything that requires leaving my bed, let alone apartment. However, I try to find things to keep active, even under said weather conditions. Two things that instantly come to mind are winter fashion and the gym. I've never had the chance to experience winter fashion and I find it rather exciting and calming pairing together outfits, etc. Layering in itself is fun and the options are endless; it subconsciously promotes energy and creativity, leaving you with the need to show it off in public! And of course, the gym. This city is all about looking your best and since it's so unbearably cold outside, why not build endorphins and "Look Better Naked" all at once!? Pair together a few classes, get in a good workout and you'll leave feeling confident, motivated and determined. It's the perfect time to perfect your holiday-ruined body for the spring season.
As much as I love living in NYC, I will forever miss the near perfect weather Florida has to offer almost year round. I've realized I have the best of both worlds, not many people can call both NYC and Florida home. Now I just need to focus on booking jobs according to the seasons..

Happy Belated New Year!
Well, the year started off much different than those in the past; for myself at least. For the first time ever, I spent my new years eve working; it was a strange experience. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my very much procrastinated "new years resolution list," or if this is just another year in which I complete only half of my listed "resolutions." Either way, we've made it to 2013 and that in itself is an accomplishment.
Resolutions: a new year, a new you. New beginnings, new experiences, new relationships and a fresh, new start for those who just experienced the worst year of their lives- or perhaps just a fresh new start. Why does one have to wait until the new year to change their outlook/ goals? I just don't get it. Why not simply start NOW. Start with daily goals, or if these are too challenging, begin with weekly and/or monthly goals. Once you've successfully completed one, add another and so on. Waiting for the new year to begin puts a lot of pressure not only on yourself, but your goals as well. Goals are easy to achieve, if you're willing to go to the distance to achieve them. Only the willing can change.
You may have already noticed that blogging is (was) one of my "new years resolutions" and I'm just now starting, nearly two weeks late. I probably seem like a complete hypocrite, I know, but I'm gung-ho to see where this blog takes off. I've been feeling and experiencing so many new, different things since moving to The Big Apple and I'm thoroughly looking forward to sharing them with whomever stumbles upon this… publicly private domain.
